DC Bilingual celebrates CLASS scores for Pre-K classrooms

Every year, the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) evaluates the quality and effectiveness of our Pre-K classrooms using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System® (CLASS®). CLASS measures the quality of teacher-student interactions across three key domains: Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support. The chart below reflects the average CLASS scores for all eight DC Bilingual Pre-K classrooms during the 2025–2026 school year.

Average CLASS scores for all eight DC Bilingual Pre-K classrooms for 2025–2026.!

The chart highlights DC Bilingual's average CLASS scores compared to OSSE's target benchmarks for all publicly funded Pre-K programs in DC. We are proud to report that our classrooms once again exceeded the OSSE benchmark of 6.0 in both Emotional Support and Classroom Organization, while also demonstrating continued year-over-year growth in these areas.

We are especially excited by our progress in Instructional Support. This domain has historically been the most challenging for early childhood programs across the country, making growth particularly meaningful. Through intentional professional development, coaching, collaborative planning, and a sustained focus on strengthening instructional practices, our Pre-K team has nearly reached OSSE's target score of 4.0—a significant accomplishment that reflects years of dedicated effort and continuous improvement.

These outstanding results are a testament to the incredible work of our Pre-K teachers, support staff, coaches, and school leadership. Every day, they create joyful, nurturing, and engaging bilingual classrooms where our youngest learners thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Their commitment to excellence, willingness to reflect on and strengthen their practice, and deep care for our students have made these results possible. We are incredibly proud of this team and grateful for the positive impact they have on our children and families.

Overall, these assessment results reinforce what we see every day at DC Bilingual: our students are learning in high-quality, bilingual Pre-K classrooms that foster strong relationships, effective teaching, and meaningful learning experiences. We look forward to building on this success in the school years to come!
