On Wednesday, October 29, DC Bilingual hosted the second session of Escuelita, bringing together educators from Capital City, Global Citizens, Mundo Verde, Breakthrough Montessori, and Lee Montessori for a day of deep learning focused on High-Quality Reading Instruction for All Learners.
This one-day session provided a rich opportunity for instructional leaders, specialists, and teachers from participating schools to engage with the history and ongoing evolution of literacy instruction at DC Bilingual. Together, we explored how our school has embraced key shifts inspired by the Science of Reading, and how those changes have shaped our practices from the leadership level, to teacher practice, and finally, to what’s happening every day in our classrooms.
Participants dove into DC Bilingual’s journey toward evidence-based literacy instruction, learning about the intentional steps taken to ensure all students receive the highest-quality reading experiences. After discussing our high-impact literacy strategies, attendees had the chance to see literacy instruction in action, observing classrooms where these strategies come to life.
The day concluded with reflection and collaboration, as educators considered how these practices could be adapted and implemented in their own school communities.
We’re so grateful to our partner schools for joining us in this collective learning experience.
