Escuelita Rewind: Building a Thriving School & Classroom Culture

After two successful pilots last spring, we brought back amazing educators to DC Bilingual from Tuesday, Sept. 23 until Thursday, Sept. 25. Our opening session, Building a Thriving School & Classroom Culture, welcomed 17 visiting staff members from Houston ES, Capitol City PCS, Meridian PCS, Global Citizens PCS, and Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy PCS

Participants were fully immersed—exploring DC Bilingual’s learning environment firsthand and witnessing how the school’s spaces, programs, and culture promote bilingualism, equity, and excellence. During the three day experience, participant schools explored how DC Bilingual has built and sustained a thriving school and classroom culture rooted in its mission, through intentional structures, aligned systems, and strong relationships that foster coherence, connection, and collective growth. This was a wonderful moment to celebrate our school’s hard work and share DC Bilingual’s vibrant culture with partner communities.

Throughout the three days, participants hear from Escuelita & DC Bilingual staff and share resources and best practices.
Lester Matlock, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, shares a few words of his experience as a founding board member and how stakeholders at all levels of the school can help build and maintain a positive school culture.
Participants engage in an activity with DC Bilingual’s Adult Community Engagement Principles to highlight one of the ways our school community creates an environment for all members to feel heard and respected.

On the final day of the session, participants left with new knowledge & ideas, and a plan to strengthen their school & classroom culture. They also broadened their network of educators!
