Overall Objective for the Experience
Participants will gain insight into the approaches used by DC Bilingual to offer authentic dual-language instruction that values and empowers teachers, with the goal of delivering a high-quality bilingual educational program rooted in high expectations, ultimately contributing to the building of a strong and welcoming bilingual school culture.
Day 1: Exploring the DCB Model & Learning Environment
Understand DCB’s History, School Model & Approach: Gain insight into DCB’s history, mission, lead values, and core components that drive student success.
Reflect and self-assess your school’s journey: Identify pivotal moments in your school’s history that have shaped its growth and success, and collaborate with your team to self-assess your school’s alignment with the DCB Approach framework, identifying areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
Day 2: Fostering a Welcoming Bilingual School Culture: Leadership & High Expectations
Deepen the understanding of the history of bilingual education at DCB and the foundational role played by its leaders over the years, as well as the high academic expectations in both languages: Learn our bilingual journey and the legacy left by our leaders, and the actions that have been taken to promote a bilingual culture with high academic standards
Reflect on the morning’s learning and explore how to transfer key strategies to your school. Use the mindsets and tools of the DCB approach and identify specific aspects you will implement; create an initial roadmap with clear goals, defined roles, and next steps to strengthen the Bilingual Culture at your school.
Day 3: Fostering a Welcoming Bilingual School Culture: Talent & Culture
Explore how bilingual learning is experienced at DCB, both within and beyond the classroom — as well as the importance of identifying, retaining, and developing human talent to foster a strong bilingual culture: Learn about the rich cultural experiences provided by DCB and the steps taken to recognize, retain, and develop talent.
Reflect on the morning’s learning and explore how to transfer key strategies to your school. Use the mindsets and tools of the DCB approach and identify specific aspects you will implement; create an initial roadmap with clear goals, defined roles, and next steps to strengthen the Bilingual Culture at your school.
